Every year, Scottish Widows asks UK paraplanners how they’re feeling about their work, their firms and the changes shaping the profession. This year, we’re getting an advance look at what they’re finding, before the full results are published.

IHT, AI and the future of paraplanning: the headlines first

Join us online at 1.00 pm on Thursday 22 October. Host Richard Allum will be joined by Harry Keating-Coyne, Intermediary Distribution Manager at Scottish Widows, to talk through the emerging themes from this year’s survey.

The big story: inheritance tax

The April 2027 changes bringing pensions into the IHT net are a significant shift for advice firms and their clients. Scottish Widows believes it may be a bigger shift than some currently realise. So this year’s research looks closely at how prepared the profession really is, including:

  • how ready paraplanners feel for the changes
  • what firms have already changed, or are in the process of changing
  • how client conversations and planning strategies are evolving
  • potential product implications and unintended consequences
  • whether the changes are seen mainly as a challenge or an opportunity
  • whether they could spark broader intergenerational and whole-family planning
AI and the future of advice

Alongside IHT, we’ll explore what paraplanners and advisers think about AI, Targeted Support and simplified advice. That covers how far firms are adopting them, how confident people feel, and whether they’re seen as an opportunity or a threat.

We’ll also look at the bigger picture: the future shape of advice businesses and the role of paraplanners within them. That includes technology, the impact of regulation on workload and value, recruitment, and changing client expectations.

What can you expect?

This is a chance to hear what your peers across the profession are thinking before the full report lands. You’ll get a sense of how your own firm’s approach to IHT and AI compares with others, and you’ll be able to put your questions directly to Scottish Widows.

The session lasts one hour and CPD is available.
